The position will initially be a fixed-term public sector position (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit) for a period of three years. The duration of the appointment may be extended to the maximum period of six years if this is supported by the results of the teaching appraisal and the external assessment of the appointee’s research work.
To establish and lead an independent junior research group in the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, we are seeking an individual who has completed a very successful period of doctoral and possibly postdoctoral research in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology. The successful candidate should have authored or co-authored high-quality publications in internationally recognized journals and should be capable of acquiring significant external research funding. To participate in existing and future research initiatives at Saarland University, the junior professorship should further strengthen the core research areas at the Faculty of Medicine and the Center of Human and Molecular Biology (ZHMB, https://www.uni-saarland.de/en/institution/zhmb.html). To facilitate the best possible integration, it is intended that the junior professorship will be accommodated in the new Center for Molecular Signaling (PZMS;
https://www.uni-saarland.de/en/faculty-m/pzms.html). The appointee will be expected to fulfil teaching duties at the Center for Human and Molecular Biology and to participate in the restructuring of the Master’s degree programme. Lectures are held in German or English.
The appointment will be made in accordance with the general provisions of German public sector employment law. You must be a university graduate who has demonstrated a particular capacity for independent academic research, usually evidenced by the outstanding quality of your PhD or doctoral thesis. You will typically have completed a period of postdoctoral research and have teaching experience at university level. If you were employed as a research associate (or equivalent) before or after your PhD/doctorate, the combined period of doctoral research and employment in Germany should not exceed six years.
